Upon Waking

This morning, the air outside is cool and crisp, and my apartment still smells like a bakery. Hee.

Mom and Tom arrive this afternoon.

I recorded an last night’s episode of Charlie Rose. He interviewed Toni Morrison. I’m watching part of that interview right now. She said she doesn’t describe her characters in too much detail. Regarding¬†the antagonist¬†in her new novel, A Mercy:

“The readers owns it, once he or she imagines it. I don’t want to just impose my physical imagination of [the main character] on the reader.”

I like this quality in any art form. Please don’t spell every little thing out. Let me to my own imagination and my own powers of deduction. Give me nuance, give me subtlety, give me suprise.

Do it well. Toni Morrison is phenomenal.
